When I was a little girl my parents had legally migrated to the U.S. and did not speak a word of English. Every day I would watch Sesame Street and because of that show I learned to read, count to 100 and understand that just because I was a different color didn’t mean I didn’t belong. In fact, the show taught me to appreciate everything that is different about a person because friends are everywhere. It was also the only American station that had Latinos in the forefront — not based on stereotypes but good, hardworking, loving people just like my own family.
