Mark Thompson, Director General of the BBC, has been named the new CEO of the New York Times.
Back in 2010 I organized a panel with Thompson on the future of public media in a digital age. The remarks he gave offer some interesting insights into how Thompson understands the role of leadership within a media organization and his vision for journalism’s future. Of particular interest is a short section from the end of his speech on public service media and public space. While he talks specifically about broadcasting, at first he expands the idea to all, and especially digital media.
