Talking To Strangers

Clippings, Commentary and Conversation from Across the Web.

Josh Stearns
Journalism and Public Media Campaign Director at Free Press

I fight for the future of journalism through media and technology policy. My work focuses on building community through online and grassroots organizing, creative storytelling, high impact events, public education and collaborative problem-solving.

For more than ten years I have worked at the intersection of communications, education reform, student organizing and civic engagement. My work in higher education has included teaching and advising students, training faculty in service-learning pedagogy and developing civic engagement curriculum. I still miss teaching.

I speak frequently on the future of journalism, community media, civic engagement, innovation, collaboration and media policy.  My writing has been published in Orion Magazine, Mother Jones and Yes Magazine. I have served on the board of directors for the Student Conservation Association, the Valley Land Fund and Educators for Community Engagement.

I live in Western Massachusetts with my wife and two sons.
